MEDIGREEN Venice Workshop and Steering Committee

0

From June 24–26, 2025, the historic setting of San Servolo, in Venice,  hosted the three-day MEDIGREEN Workshop, bringing together project partners, competent authorities, and experts from across the Mediterranean to advance the integration of the European Green Deal (EGD) principles into Marine Spatial Planning (MSP).

Organised by CORILA in the Venice International University premises, the workshop took place at the stunning Venice International University, providing the perfect backdrop for deep dialogue and collaboration.

Day 1 opened with a high-level discussion on the “Assessment of the EGD Components of MSP Plans”. Participants shared national insights, assessment methodologies, and recent results, followed by an interactive hands-on session. The strong engagement highlighted the regional commitment to aligning MSP with sustainability goals.

Day 2 began with continued focus on MSP plan assessments, before participants ventured into the Venice lagoon for a series of immersive site visits. These explored the area’s unique natural features, climate adaptation strategies, and rich cultural heritage, reinforcing the interconnectedness of environmental and socio-economic dimensions in MSP. The day closed on a high note, with reflections shared against the backdrop of a breathtaking Venetian sunset.

Day 3 carried forward the workshop’s momentum, starting with a session to refine the methodology for Work Package 2 (WP2). This was followed by a Steering Committee meeting with the Advisory Board and competent authorities, held in hybrid format to facilitate inclusive discussion on project direction. In the afternoon, MEDIGREEN partners joined the Final Event of the sister project MSP4BIO, promoting cross-project learning and highlighting shared priorities in biodiversity and sustainable marine governance.
