MEDIGREEN at European Ocean Days in Brussels
The MEDIGREEN project, represented by Università Iuav di Venezia, CNR-ISMAR Institute of Marine Sciences, and CORILA, took part in the European Ocean Days held in Brussels.
The event provided an important opportunity to explore the next steps toward a shared European vision for fisheries and aquaculture, in view of the upcoming 2040 Vision. Discussions and presentations during the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters Forum also highlighted the need to accelerate research and development of clean and autonomous energy systems, including offshore renewable energy, while ensuring the protection of marine ecosystems.
The progress achieved within the Mission framework is encouraging. Many initiatives and projects are now looking ahead to the release of new European strategies later this year, which will help guide future work on Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) across key sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, and marine energy—core themes addressed by the MEDIGREEN project.
Participation in European Ocean Days allowed MEDIGREEN partners to connect with the broader European ocean community, exchange perspectives, and contribute to ongoing reflections on the future of sustainable ocean governance in Europe. The project team also expresses its gratitude to the European Commission for the hospitality and the opportunity to take part in this important gathering.
